VOLUNTEERING AT GUARDIAN ANGELS CAT RESCUE & ADOPTION SHELTER

VOLUNTEERING ON THE CAT SIDE
Guardian Angels Cat Rescue & Adoption Shelter currently has a limited number of volunteers who are dedicated to the daily maintenance and upkeep of the building and the cats/ kittens.  Although the Shelter itself is open to the public only 2 days per week for adoptions, volunteers spend each morning and evening tending to the needs of the cats that live there.  Daily maintenance is hard work, the Shelter’s goal is to staff each morning with a team of 5 or 6 dependable, diligent people.  There are currently teams of an average of 3 volunteers per day and some volunteers teams doing double duty.

Cleaning crews are the Shelter’s most under represented and urgently needed and vital volunteer group.

The Shelter consists of 5 rooms that house cats in a cage free environment and a medical room/ holding area with 36 cages. There is also a kitchen, laundry area and litter box/ carrier washing area. Emphasis is placed on hygiene to prevent, where possible, the transmission of disease between cats and kittens.

The day begins at 8am for most volunteers and commitment is a minimum of 4 hours. Routine tasks include; scooping litter boxes, changing water, ensuring food is available to the cats, sweeping and mopping floors, changing linens and bedding, cleaning medical cages, laundry, washing litter boxes and carriers, cleaning windows, vacuuming and so on.

Full training in the cleaning and hygiene protocols is provided, and for experienced volunteers, the opportunity to train as adoption counselors, room monitors and education counselors is also available.

VOLUNTEERING FOR THE THRIFT STORE:
The Thrift Store currently has a team of 6 people who generally work in teams of 2 on open days.

Thrift Store volunteers accept donations, sort, straighten, help customers, and occasionally pick up donations. The Thrift Store is a fun place to volunteer, make new friends, discover exciting treasures! Plus, you will know that you are making a wonderful difference in the community! Please, stop in and meet Patt and the crew any Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday between the hours of 9am and 4pm.

OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Grant writing, sending thankyou cards, fundraising and events, adoption follow up, vet runs, answering the telephone, administrative tasks and general assistance to other volunteers or to the Shelter.

The Shelter’s Volunteer Coordinator, Claudette Cooper, is available to individuals who would like to volunteer their time, via email at GACR Volunteer Opportunities
