Spay and Neuter - What Does This Mean?
Spaying or neutering an animal prevents that animal from breeding. In female animals, it is the equivalent of a human woman having her "tubes" tied. The uterus remains intact, but the animal can no longer produce eggs. In male animals, it is the equivalent of a vasectomy, although the simplest method of neutering requires testicular removal.
Spay and Neuter - Why?
Hundreds of thousands of kittens and puppies are born, the world over. A vast majority of these animals are unwanted. For most of these kittens and puppies, by the mere fact of being born, they are destined to die. There are simply not enough homes for them. Most born in the US will end up in kill shelters and after the limited time allotted by these facilities, will be euthanized - euthanized means killed -
